Child of the Sun

For some off the beaten path tourism we headed to Lakeland and the campus of Florida Southern designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The college has the most Wright designed building in one single location 12 buildings in all. Our self guided tour was interesting, I appreciate Wright’s desire for the buildings to connect with nature, but overall I though the buildings seem very heavy, and the interior spaces seamed dark and closed off.
Above are a few pics of the builds:
1. The top photo is the Polk County Science Building the last of the Wright buildings to be completed in 1958.
2. A stairway in the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel completed in 1941. Wright used these concrete blocks with colored glass for exterior and interior walls in several of the building on campus.
3. A from under one of the esplanades that connect the buildings.
4. The leaded glass window of the William H. Danforth Chapel.
