Basement Update

End of the week basement recap. Not as much progress was made this
week as last week, due to weather and a few set backs.

At the end of last week we found out that the old cast iron sewer line
being replaced under the house had been leaking. Sewage, Nice!
We told that if the pipe under the house was leaking, that there is a
good chance that pipe under our front yard leading to the street could
also be leaking, and that replacing the pipe would involve digging up the
front yard and cost at least 6k. We spend most of the week weighing the
options, fork over the 6k+ or ignore it. Finally today we had a pluming
service run a camera through the pipe to examine the pipe. Good news!
Most of the pipe on the outside of the house has already been replaced,
but we still have a 10 foot section that needs to be replaced. The replacing
the 10 ft section will about $2500, and will probably require killing the
dogwood near the front of the house, but the dogwood has a fungus
common among dogwoods and has been slowly dying for a while.

Meanwhile this week the plumber finished laying the sewer line inside
which passed the “ground work inspection” on Thursday.

The electrician stared pulling wires and hanging the recessed lighting
and boxes for the outlets and switched.

After the inspection they stated filling in the hole and laid the new
concrete. The hole in the bathroom will remain until they’re able to
connect to the new pipe on the outside of the house.
